Hello.

I’m a local journalist who’s passionate about building community through reporting and engagement. In my 14 years as editor of the Iowa Falls Times Citizen, I’ve led the newsroom through the evolution from a twice-weekly print-only operation, to a team that reports around the clock using every digital tool at its disposal, while understanding that some of our readers still rely on traditional print products.

In addition to my newsroom leadership role, I’m also actively engaged in day-to-day reporting. I get excited about issues that are important people’s daily lives—government accountability, access to health care, education and the ways that cities and states respond (or don’t respond) to issues like climate change and housing shortages.

I spend a lot of time thinking, reading and writing about the news and looking for ways to scale big ideas to fit our small newsroom. I like to experiment with new tools, audience engagement initiatives and workflows to find the right chemistry for our newsroom and our audience. I’m happiest when I’m learning new things, be it how to build a spreadsheet to analyze data, how to use Facebook groups to connect with people about the news, or how to collaborate with other journalists to tell more comprehensive stories.

I’m a lifelong Iowan who believes that just because a town is small, doesn’t mean its news has to be.
